I was born on November 4th 1982 in São Paulo, Brazil. I grew up in between São Paulo and my Grandmother´s small town of Cosmopolis. From the mid-1980s through the mid-1990s, two distinct lines of those two cultures held me in their sway: The “progressive” sport wise heritage of my older cousins generation – soccer players like Romário, Raí, Sócrates, and Falcão, whom my cousins knew from hours watching all sort of soccer competitions; and the “nature,” the dreamer kid who forgot to go back to his home that came out of been lost in the woods of Cosmopilis, always looking for the next adventure.
I began shaping boards in São Paulo while studying Product Design in Mackenzie College. I was starting off designing some of standard three finned high performance short boards, but still experimenting with plan shapes to find the most high-performance aspects of the design. I also worked on low-rocker three-fin boards with wider outlines in response to the overly thin boards of the 1990´s shaped. But after winning the most popular design Challenge in Brazil – The Annually VW Design Contest – I quit surfboards and dived into Automotive design world. Since then I had the honor to work in the best Design Centers in Brazil. I refined my design taste in places like: Volkswagen, Chevrolet, Fiat and Peugeot/Citroen.
While working at Chevrolet Design Center (2009-2012), I worked for free to transform a local surfboard brand into a healthily mid-sized Surfboard Brand. Everything to keep in touch with my ongoing love for surfing. I also became aware of Gold Coast – Australia, and right the way it became my next target. I worked my ass off to safe enough money to live in Australia for the rest of my life. But life is never how you plan to it be, and in 2014 my former boss in Chevrolet call me back to work on an important worldwide project, and I accepted.
I loved to come back and meet again old friends and put my hands on brand new projects. But something was changed inside me, and did not take too long to found BlackBox Surfing. The most exiting surfboard brand in Brazil, or at least it´s how I like to think.
I now split my time working on BlackBox Surfing growth and designing new projects to Peugeot/Citroen for 2018/19/20. Living in São Paulo and traveling every weekend to the beach. I shape surfboards, design cars, sites, logos, and plane to work on a boat – a 16-foot sailboat I am designing for coastal cruising.
